Spray or lubricate?
Written by Daan Timmers.
Since I started working at Lekker, one of the questions I'm asked most often is , "Isn't it weird to rub something on your armpit with your finger?" My answer: yes and no.
We're currently running a test to see how much longer our cream deodorant lasts than a regular deodorant. So, I took a trip down memory lane and temporarily switched back to my old friend, the aerosol can. A version without aluminum, though, because even for a test, there are limits. A good time to compare my own experience with our cream deodorant with the familiar aerosol can.
To apply
The first thing I notice is that the aerosol deodorant is incredibly cold when it comes out of the can. I honestly can't remember if I experienced this before I got used to the cream deodorant. This is due to the principle of adiabatic expansion . For anyone who, like me, dropped chemistry somewhere in high school: this means that when the pressure in the aerosol can drops, all the energy and heat is drawn from the environment. Your armpit, that is. The alcohol also ensures that the area stays colder longer.
Personally, I'm not particularly enthusiastic about it. Admittedly, the first time you use cream deodorant, it feels a bit strange. But you soon realize that touching your own body isn't strange at all; we do it daily, for example, while showering. You don't have to worry about your hygiene either. Any bacteria that might be on your hands are immediately destroyed by the baking soda or zinc salt.
Smell
For me, deodorant is something personal and intimate. That's why I immediately get a "toilet freshener" feeling when I use the aerosol. Just as a toilet freshener reveals it was a number two, my girlfriend can no longer enter the bathroom without a whiff of my deodorant. This is because only 11% of the spray actually reaches your skin. The remaining 89% is a gift to those around you. It's a real shame for my girlfriend, who doesn't use aerosol deodorant herself, and for our cat, Salvador, who also prefers natural scents.
Are cream deodorants unscented? Absolutely not. Lekker deodorants do contain fragrances, but they're not overpowering. Because you can precisely target the right spots in your armpits with the cream, a jar lasts about 2 to 3 months!

The winner from the (spray)can
Even before I started working at The Lekker Company, I was a big fan of our jars. They're easy to use, the scent is pleasant, and what's left are 100% natural ingredients in a recyclable packaging. Our tests show that our cream deodorant lasts about 2 to 2.5 times longer. So, it's also a good deal for your money.
Still not convinced? Top-X recently named our mandarin & lemon deodorant the best natural deodorant!
We're used to sticking with the familiar, even though the reasons for using them have vanished. At The Lekker Company, we make our products without compromise to contribute to a better world. Our mission is to initiate positive behavior change, one jar at a time. Will you take the next step?
