5 tips to get rid of your lip balm addiction

04/05/2023

Written by Daan Timmers.

If you were allowed to make a list of five common addictions, lip balm probably wouldn't be on the list. While it is a lot more addictive than you might think. This is mainly due to ingredients you often find in lip balm. You can read about exactly how that works here.

There you are with your good behavior. Totally unexpectedly, you've got a lip balm addiction and a vicious circle of dry lips. Fortunately, help is on the way. We give you the tips you need to get rid of your addiction.

1. Eat less salt

One of the biggest dehydrators we use in everyday life is salt. That goes for your body as well as your lips. So those instant noodles are better left out if you don't want dry lips.

2. Drink plenty of water

Water is at the top of a lot of health lists and is therefore heavily promoted. Therefore, it is also your best friend against dry lips. Therefore, try to drink at least two liters of water a daybreak-

3. Lick your lips a little less

Salty foods also tend to make you lick your lips more often. This seems very harmless, but it secretly makes you feel much more like using a lip balm. This is because your saliva dries out your lips even more than it was, achieving the exact opposite of what you want.breakbreak-

4. Avoid the ingredient petroleum

Petroleum is the ingredient in many lip balms that causes them to seal your lips, making them feel increasingly dehydrated. This makes you feel like you want to put on more lip balm again, so in fact it dries them out even more. This is why it is important to know which lip balms contain petroleum.

Most of us are not likely to read all the ingredients that are included in cosmetics. This makes perfect sense, as everything is written in INCI (international cosmetics language). This makes reading quite difficult. Fortunately, with the right knowledge, you can pick out the different varieties of petroleum. Therefore, look for kerosene, petroleum, petrolatum or mineral oil on packaging.

And last but not least....

5. Get on the Lekker train!

Fortunately, there are also variants that are 100% natural and non-addictive. For example, try the Lekker lip balm, available in two flavors: Raspberry lemonade and Orange vanilla swirl. These are at every Kruidvat in the Netherlands.

From May 1 to 14 2023 you can shop the lip balm 1+1 free, only in Kruidvat stores.
